Four-Season Protection, Three-Season Weight

The Summit Shelter began as a challenge: build a tent that a mountaineer would trust at 14,000 feet but that a backpacker would actually carry there. The result is a 3.2kg freestanding shelter with two full vestibules, DAC Featherlite NSL poles, and a 40D ripstop floor with 3000mm hydrostatic head rating.

The color-coded pole system eliminates fumbling in bad conditions. Red clips to red, blue clips to blue — full setup takes under 4 minutes even in gloves. Two doors and two vestibules mean no crawling over your tent-mates at 2am, and each vestibule provides nearly 2 square meters of gear storage.

Ventilation was a primary design concern. Twin ridge vents stay open even in rain, and the mesh inner canopy provides floor-to-peak airflow that prevents condensation without sacrificing warmth. The 20D Sil-Nylon rainfly is seam-sealed at the factory and treated with a DWR coating that maintains effectiveness for years of field use.

Survived a storm at 12,000 feet

By Alex T.

Set up camp below treeline on a clear evening. Woke at midnight to 40 mph gusts and sideways snow. The Summit Shelter didn't flinch. The poles flexed but held, the vestibule kept our boots dry, and the ventilation system somehow prevented condensation despite both vents being battened down. We stayed warm and slept through the rest of it. This tent earned my trust in a single night.

Best tent setup system ever

By Robin J.

I've owned tents from every major brand. The color-coded pole system on the Summit Shelter is the single best setup innovation I've encountered. Red to red, blue to blue — done. I timed myself at 3 minutes 20 seconds in calm conditions, and under 5 minutes wearing heavy gloves in the dark. The two-door, two-vestibule layout means no more crawling over sleeping partners.

Heavy for backpacking, perfect for basecamp

By Drew M.

At 3.2kg the Summit Shelter is heavier than my 3-season tent, but that's the trade-off for 4-season capability. I use it primarily for winter basecamp trips and alpine climbing where I need a shelter I can absolutely rely on. For summer backpacking I'd go lighter, but for anything where weather is a real concern, this is the tent I grab. The packed size is reasonable and the floor area is genuinely comfortable for three adults.
